Void
FAQ

Common questions, short answers.

Use this page to understand what Void is, what it is not, and which path is right for you.

Using Void
What number do callers dial?+

Public callers can use the Void number shown on the Individuals page. Hosted Voice customers get a dedicated number provisioned for their organisation. Workers dial that number directly.

Does the caller need internet or a smartphone?+

No. The caller only needs a working voice call. Any phone that can dial out works: feature phones, borrowed handsets, desk phones, satellite phones. No app, mobile data, or account is required from the caller's side.

What happens if Void cannot find a match?+

If no specific service is found, Void falls back to the best available national number for that category and country. For emergencies, it defaults to the universal number 112 if no local match can be resolved.

Is Void a replacement for emergency services?+

No. Void is a directory and routing layer, not an emergency dispatch operator. If you already know the correct local number, call it directly. Void is most useful when you do not know who to call or what number to use.

Which languages does Void understand?+

Void uses AI speech recognition that auto-detects the caller's language and responds accordingly. It works well with English, Afrikaans, Zulu, French, Spanish, German, Hindi, and Urdu. Coverage for other languages depends on the underlying speech model.

Does Void support USSD?+

Not yet. The current service runs over standard voice calls. USSD support is planned and requires carrier-level integration through a separate provider. Voice calling works today on any network without additional setup.

For Businesses
What is Hosted Voice?+

Hosted Voice is a managed deployment where Void provisions a dedicated phone number for your organisation. Workers dial that number, speak what they need, and Void routes the call based on your configured directory. No app rollout, no smartphone required.

Can we run a pilot before committing?+

Yes. We offer a 30-day pilot at R2,500 which converts to the full monthly rate if you proceed. Email dboysen@voidtech.co.za to get started.

What does onboarding look like?+

We scope the directory together: sites, teams, emergency contacts, and escalation rules. Void then provisions the number and configures routing. Most deployments are live within a week of kickoff.

What is the SLA for Hosted Voice?+

Site plans include Standard SLA, first response within 24 business hours (SAST). Corporate plans include Priority SLA, first response within 8 business hours (SAST). The API targets 99% monthly uptime with service credits for paid plans that fall below that.

For Developers
What is the API for?+

The API returns the best-matched emergency service contact or people registry results in JSON. See the Coverage page for which regions have individually verified numbers versus OpenStreetMap/Overture-sourced data. Use it in travel apps, safety platforms, wearables, insurance products, duty-of-care systems, or anything that needs to resolve a contact under urgency. You handle your own telephony and UI.

How do I test the API?+

Get a free key on the Developers page: 500 calls per month, no credit card required. Pass it as the X-Void-API-Key header on every request. The usage dashboard shows call history and quota remaining.

What are the rate limits?+

The free tier is rate-limited per minute and capped at 500 calls per month. Starter and Pro plans have higher per-minute limits. Enterprise plans can negotiate custom limits. Contact us if you need burst capacity for testing.

How is registry data protected?+

People Registry entries are OTP-verified, encrypted at rest, and governed by the user's visibility setting. Users can remove themselves at any time through the deletion flow on the Individuals page.
